1500 GSM, because the wash is where the damage happens.
Almost every swirl mark in your paint was put there by you, during the contact wash. Not by the car park, not by the weather. By the thing you washed it with.
Soft Touch is a 1500 GSM Korean microfibre mitt, and the weight is the point. Deep, dense pile pulls dirt up into the fibres and holds it away from the paint, instead of trapping it against the surface and dragging it. A cheap sponge does the exact opposite: it holds grit on the flat face and grinds it in.
It holds a lot of shampoo, so the panel stays lubricated. A double-sided sponge insert gives it body, the internal stitching keeps it from twisting in your hand, and the elasticated cuff means it does not slide off when it is full of water.
Works for cars, boats and motorcycles.

Rinse it in your second bucket properly, and if you drop it on the floor, it is finished. Get two.

Two buckets. One for shampoo, one for rinsing. Rinse the mitt thoroughly between panels.
Wash. Separately from other laundry, at 40 °C or below. Never above 60 °C. No fabric softener, no bleach.
Dry. Rinse under running water and hang to dry. Never leave it sitting in a wet bucket.
Retire. Immediately if it touches the floor. There is no way to get the grit back out.
Wash-induced marring is your most common self-inflicted problem, and it is almost entirely a function of what the technician is holding. A high-GSM mitt lifts contamination up into the pile and away from the surface. Anything less does the opposite.
On coated vehicles it matters more, not less. A customer who paid for a multi-year coating and finds swirls after your maintenance wash has a legitimate complaint, and the coating gets blamed.

Process point. Mitts should be retired on contact with the floor and rotated regularly. A mitt is a consumable, not equipment, and treating it as equipment is how contamination gets reintroduced across every car in the bay.
